Spain have been the best team in the world over the last few years and it has seen them win two World Cup and one European championship titles. They will once again be the favourites to win the upcoming edition of the World Cup. It will take place in Brazil this summer. However, manager Vicente del Bosque has said that Spain should not be overly confident ahead of this tournament. A number of other teams like Brazil and Argentina also have the capability to win it, while the home support should provide the South American teams with extra incentive.
Teams from Europe like Italy and Germany appeared to be extremely strong, while the likes of Japan and Ivory Coast can be considered as dark horses. Due to the strength in depth of the opposition, del Bosque believes that the World Cup 2014 will not be easy to win. Spain got a taste of the World Cup and its condition by taking part in the Confederations cup, which they lost to Brazil. However, teams that have won the Confederations cup have not been successful in the World Cup itself.
Spain have a number of players coming to the end of the playing careers. They have been key to Spain during this illustrious period. The likes of Xavi and Puyol are not expected to be part of the next World Cup.
“We have to forget the past and not gloat over what we have won in previous years. Humbleness is not an empty word. When I ask for it, it is because it is the path to success. The players have won a lot, almost everything, and their vision is not the same as it was five or six years ago. That is my only fear. We come back to humbleness. You have to be humble, sportsmen, and good lads,” said del Bosque.
