Ex-Spanish national team right-back Michel Salgado became a Premier League player towards the end of his career. He featured in the English top flight for just one team and that was former Premier League winners Blackburn Rovers.

Michel Salgado became a Blackburn Rovers player after impressing then manager Sam Allardyce at the end of a trial. Allardyce was impressed with the Spaniard while he was on trial at Ewood Park and that prompted the club to sign him in August 2009 at the age of 33.

At the time, Blackburn Rovers were one of the stable teams in the Premier League. Michel Salgado made his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2009 in a Premier League encounter. Salgado was a late substitute as Blackburn Rovers beat Wolves 3-1 at home.

When Salgado signed for Blackburn Rovers, the ex-Celta Vigo and Real Madrid defender told reporters that his plan is to retire at Ewood Park. Michel Salgado scored his first goal in the colours of Blackburn Rovers in the 5-2 victory over Peterborough United in the League Cup.

Salgado was an important part of the Blackburn Rovers team during his time at the club and it was not surprising when the 1994/95 Premier League winners gave him a contract extension in January 2011 at the age of 35. He was free to speak to other clubs outside England about signing on a free transfer at the end of his Blackburn Rovers contract before the club agreed a deal with him.

The ex-Spanish international player was the first choice at right-back for the 2011/12 season until he picked up an injury. In December 2011, Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean went on record to say that the player was excluded from the team after failing to play the number of games agreed for a new contract. During his time with Blackburn Rovers, Salgado played 66 times in the Premier League without scoring a goal.
